Youth walks into Kerala police station with ‘skeletal remains’ of two infants, police launch investigation

A youth walked into a police station in Thrissur in Kerala early Sunday (June 29, 2025), claiming that he possessed the skeletal remains of two infants conceived out of wedlock to a woman with whom he had a protracted but clandestine relationship.
According to police, the youth deposited two bags with the Station House Officer, which he claimed contained the remains of the newborns.
The police alleged the youth was inebriated, and they have launched a suspected infanticide and destruction of evidence investigation following the registration of a First Information Statement (FIS).
The police have summoned the woman and her family for questioning. They were verifying the couple’s reported claim that the infants died prematurely, and they buried they furtively buried the bodies to keep the relationship a secret, fearing social stigma and ostracisation.
According to police, the youth claimed that they later exhumed the bones and preserved them for religious rites.
The police were examining whether the woman’s family had knowledge of or were complicit in what they suspected were non-clinical deliveries, which entail an amount of risk to the mother and child. They stated that the case was in a very early stage.
