The district administration on Saturday (June 14) imposed a temporary ban on all quarrying and mining activities in Kozhikode district following the latest weather update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which placed north Kerala districts on red alert for extremely heavy rainfall.

In an official communication, District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh, who also serves as the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, informed that the ban would also apply to sand mining and well-digging activities. He added that the entry of tourists to various water tourism destinations would be restricted as part of safety measures.
