Nandi Hills closed to public from June 16 to 20

The popular tourist destination, Nandi Hills, will be closed for the public from June 16 to June 20 as a Cabinet meeting will be held on top of the hills on June 19.

In a recently passed order, the district administration of Chickballapur, where Nandi Hills is situated said that the tourists will not be allowed to travel up the hill from 6 p.m. on June 16 to 5 a.m. on June 20.

During weekends and holidays, Nandi Hills sees a footfall of approximately 16,000 to 18,000 people, and there will be 3,000-3,500 two-wheelers and 1,500-1,700 cars.

On weekdays, there will be 5,000-6,000 people, 1,000-1,500 two-wheelers and 500-700 cars. Since all the Ministers, including the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, MLAs, and others are expected to attend the Cabinet meeting, the area is being closed for public as a precautionary measure.

“There is only one road to go up and to come down Nandi Hills and there are sharp turns. We will be closing the area as a precautionary measure to avoid accidents as it will be difficult to regulate people and traffic on the roads,” the order said.

The order has also restricted advanced bookings of the rooms that are situated on top of the Hill.
