IIT Madras launches new UG and PG programmes for current academic year

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has launched several new programmes for the current academic year. They include a BS in chemistry and M. Tech in Electric Vehicles. The courses are aimed at preparing graduates for leadership roles in solving complex, real-world challenges in academia and automotive industry.

The programmes include BS (Chemistry), B. Tech in Computational Engineering and Mechanics (CEM), B. Tech in instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering (iBME) and M.Tech in Electric Vehicles.

The admission for BS Chemistry will be through IISER aptitude test; admission to M.Tech in Electric Vehicles will be through GATE. For the two new B.Tech programmes from the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering admission will be through JEE.

BS Chemistry is a 4-year undergraduate programme with an upgrade to MS in chemistry. The curriculum offers a large number of choice-based learning opportunities. Candidates may opt for a minor degree along with BS (ex. BS Chemistry with Data Science).

The institute offers project work in allied science and engineering departments, as well as opportunities to collaborate with other universities and institutes during the MS project.

M.Tech in Electric Vehicles is multidisciplinary and offers opportunities for internships with industry interaction and research. B.Tech CEM blends the learning of engineering with modern computational tools. B.Tech iBME graduates will be able to design clinically regulated, ethically sensitive solutions that address global healthcare challenges. Candidates can upgrade to five-year dual degree B.Tech and M.Tech through interdisciplinary dual degree programmes. The faculty of the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering coordinate three of the IDDD programmes, including computational engineering, biomedical engineering, complex systems and dynamics.
