India-Pakistan ceasefire LIVE: DGMOs set to hold talks; PM Modi to address nation tonight

Operation Sindoor was still on, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his first address to the nation after the operation got underway adding that India “will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail” in acting against terror and its sponsors Pakistan, adding that a “new normal” had been established by India in dealing with terror incidents, of responding to it in a language that the terrorists understood. Referencing the surgical strikes of 2016, the Balakot air strikes of 2019 and Operation Sindoor in his address, he said that zero tolerance of terrorism was the guarantee for a better world.

He said that the cessation of hostilities at the moment between India and Pakistan was to be seen as only a pause and that Pakistan’s actions in the next few days will be evaluated for any further action. PM Modi also warned that the Pakistani state’s sponsorship of terror will ultimately lead to its own destruction.

He clarified that talks with Pakistan would only take place on the issues of terrorism, and on the issue of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). “Talks and terror cannot go together, talks and trade cannot go together, and water and blood (referencing the putting in abeyance of the Indus Water Treaty) cannot go together,” he said during his televised address which came an hour after U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that his administration had helped halt the conflict.
Meanwhile, the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held talks on Monday (May 12, 2025) evening. “It was also agreed that both sides consider immediate measures to ensure troop reduction from the borders and forward areas,” the Indian Army said.
