IAS officer who was in news for resharing Kancha Gachibowli post transferred by Telangana govt

A senior IAS officer, Smita Sabharwal, who was in news recently for resharing an AI-generated post on Kancha Gachibowli land row on X, was transferred by Telangana government on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

A few weeks ago, Gachibowli police summoned the bureaucrat following a notice. The inquiry pertained to an AI-generated Ghibli-style image linked to the disputed land issue, which was shared on her X account.

After recording her statement with the police, Ms. Sabharwal asked on X , “The post was reshared by 2,000 individuals on this platform. I sought clarification on whether same action is initiated for all! If not, this raises concern about selective targeting, that in turn compromises the principles of natural justice and equality before the Law.”

The situation has created a buzz in the government circles.

The IAS officer was the secretary of the Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture department which is spearheading the arrangements for Miss World Beauty pageant 2025. Ms. Sabharwal was transferred two weeks away from the contest . She is now posted as member secretary of Telangana Finance Commission
