BHEL bags fresh orders from Adani Power for 800 MW thermal power units

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), a premier Central Public Sector Enterprises, has bagged fresh orders from Adani Power Limited for manufacturing six turbines to generate thermal power.
BHEL, which was struggling with dwindling orders for a few years until recently due to various factors, has made a significant turnaround in terms of securing some big ticket orders from various domestic companies for producing boilers to erect thermal power plants in recent months. While the BHEL is working on to produce boilers by using its own plants and machinery and through its ancillary industries in Tiruchi, Pudukottai and other parts of the country, it has received further orders from Adani Power for six turbines with an installed capacity of 800 MW each to erect thermal power plants.
As per an intimation submitted to the Bombay Stock Exchange Limited, Mumbai and National Stock Exchange of India Ltd, Mumbai, the BHEL has said that it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Adani Power Limited for six thermal units of 800 MW.
As on March 31, 2025, BHEL reported a total order book worth ₹1,95,922 crore. Of it, the power segment alone constituted about 75% of the total order book. It secured its highest ever order inflows during 2024-25 amounting to ₹92,534 crore. With the fresh orders by Adani Power, the total order book value has gone up to ₹2 lakh crore.
Adani Power stands first in placing orders with BHEL. The private company had already placed orders for 14 boilers. Within this the number of boilers and turbines placed by Adani Power has gone up to 20. It is followed by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) with 11 boilers. The State-owned companies from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Maharashtra have also placed orders for boilers. The number of boiler orders placed by Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) stands at three and four respectively. Of the 39 boilers, 31 were for 800 MW each and eight were for 660 MW each.
